Description: The Department of Chemistry, Aarhus University and head of the research group “Analytical Chemistry of the Environment (ACE)” need a new system for ultrahigh performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC) coupled to high-resolution mass spectrometry (MS/MS) for several planned research projects. These include analysis of • Root exudate samples from laboratory experiments to study plant-microbe interactions • Dissolved organic compounds in marine water samples from the Arctic • Atmospheric aerosol samples from laboratory studies and field campaigns in the Arctic to study trace level organic composition. Previous studies have found hundreds to thousands of organic compounds in these types of environmental samples, many of them at very low concentrations. Future projects may also include analysis of ice core material where low levels and complexity of organic compounds are expected to be even more challenging. Furthermore, it is important to be able to differentiate between closely related structural isomers, which requires a mass spectrometer with very high mass resolution and sensitivity also at high acquisition rates.

This implies that the Contracting Authority cannot sign the Contract with the winning Tenderer before the standstill period has expired. In case of complaints about tenders or decisions, e.g. award of contracts covered by Section II or III in the Danish Public Procurement Act must be submitted to the Complaints Board for Public Procurement (Klagenævnet for Udbud) within 45 calendar days from the day after the contractor published a notice in the Official Journal on the conclusion of a contract. Autre justification: The Customer has performed a systematic search for commercially available systems for UHPLC-MS/MS for accurate identification of thousands of organic compounds at low levels in complex environmental samples, while providing complementary functionalities compared to existing Q-TOF-MS instrumentation in the research group. The Orbitrap Exploris 240 LC-MS/MS system with a Vanquish Flex UHPLC is the only available system on the market, which fulfills the requirements The Orbitrap Exploris 240 has a mass resolution up to 240,000 at m/z 200 for all scan modes and both polarities, with a mass accuracy of < 3 ppm RMS (with external calibration over 24 h and without any kind of mass re-calibration) and a mass range of 40-6,000 m/z. In particular, the high mass resolution is important for the current projects to detect and annotate thousands of organic compounds in complex environmental samples. The high mass resolution will allow for accurate identification of closely related compounds. Furthermore, the sensitivity of instrument is critical for the planned research, which requires that 200 fg Reserpine on column should yield S/N 100:1 RMS or better. Large dynamic range (>5,000:1), fast polarity switching in the tSIM (>1.6 Hz) and Full Scan (>1.4 Hz) modes, and ability to perform up to 22 MS/MS scans per second are also important parameters. The mass spectrometer must be capable of real-time data acquisition and data processing, enabling a high spectrum repetition rate, and have a dynamic exclusion capability to temporarily exclude an ion, while allowing MS/MS spectra acquisition of minor abundant precursors. Due to space limitations, the mass spectrometer must have dimensions of no more than 77 x 75 cm (d x w) and a height < 1 m. Finally, it is important that the mass spectrometer can utilize accelerated Higher Collisional Dissociation (HCD) cell for generating fragment spectra. Acquisition of a Vanquish Flex UHPLC will allow for easy transfer of analytical methods and continuation of current measurement series, as a previous version of this UHPLC is currently in use in the research group.
